Vijay Mallya has been removed from the post of working president of the Janata Party for accepting the nomination of the Janata Dal (Secular) for the Rajya Sabha candidacy from Karnataka.

Party president Subramanian Swamy, in a statement here on Tuesday, said Mr. Mallya, who was appointed on ad hoc basis to the post in 2004, failed to function effectively as the working president. The Central Parliamentary Board of the party will meet on June 14 to consider a resolution to remove Mr. Mallya from the primary membership of the party.

Dr. Swamy, who has also dissolved the Karnataka unit of the party, appointed Natraj, organising secretary of the unit, as the convener of the State committee. He will discharge the duties of the State president.
