“There are strong reasons to believe that he had made foreign visits on previous occasions as well after the agency registered the case”.

Vijay Mallya left the country about a week ago despite a lookout notice against him being sent to all airports, CBI sources have said.

“We followed all legal requirements. A lookout notice was issued against him to ensure that we have prior information on his attempts to travel abroad. There are strong reasons to believe that he had made foreign visits on previous occasions as well after the agency registered the case,” said an official.

The CBI had registered the case against Mr. Mallya, his company Kingfisher Airlines, its CFO and unknown bank officials in July 2015. Though the agency has so far questioned him twice, it is yet to send judicial requests to foreign jurisdictions seeking information on the funds transferred by the company abroad, including the U.K.

“The investigating team is scrutinising bank transactions. On the basis of the findings, letters of request for information will be dispatched soon,” said the official.
