Veteran Congress leader Sushila Rohtagi passes away

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister Sushila Rohtagi died at a hospital here after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 90.

Ms. Rohtagi, the great grand-daughter of Pt Madan Mohan Malviya and former Minister of State for Finance, died on Saturday night. She is survived by two sons and three daughters.

The leader’s body was consigned to flames this morning at ‘Bhairav Ghat’ after several party leaders paid tribute to her at Congress Party office here.

Ms. Rohtagi, who was born on August 21, 1921, was elected as Lok Sabha Member twice in 1967 and 1971. In 1985 she became Rajya Sabha Member and Union Education and Cultural Affairs Minister.

Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal condoled the passing away of the veteran leader saying the party has lost a great leader with her death.
