Veenit Joshi to head CBSE

Senior IAS officer Veenit Joshi has been appointed Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) which has been functioning without a regular head for about past 18 months.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the name of Mr. Joshi who has been functioning as the CBSE Chairman-in-charge since the retirement of Ashok Ganguly from the post of Chairman in August 2008.

The appointment letter was issued on Thursday, a senior HRD Ministry official said.

Mr. Joshi, a Manipur-Tripura cadre IAS officer on deputation at the Centre, will continue in the post till May 31, 2011, when he completes his deputation tenure.

A 1992-batch officer, Mr. Joshi hails from Uttar Pradesh.

He has done B.Tech in mechanical engineering from IIT, Kanpur.

His name was recommended for the post by the HRD Ministry, which had held the selection process for the top job for a third time.
