Vayalar Ravi injured in road accident

Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi met with a road accident this morning when he was enroute to Lagos in Nigeria from Monrovia.

According to a government release, while on his way to airport, the minister sustained minor injuries in the accident and he is being treated at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia (Liberia). He is said to be recovering.

“It is expected that he will be taken to Abidjan in Ivory Coast for check up and any further treatment that may be necessary,” the statement added.

As a result of the accident, the minister’s Nigeria visit has been cancelled.

Mr. Ravi was on an official visit to several African countries namely Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia and Nigeria from January 29 to February 6, 2010.
