U.P. journalist's killing: Minister Verma will not be sacked, says SP

He has been named in the dying declaration of journalist Jagendra Singh.

June 16, 2015 03:53 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:00 pm IST - LUCKNOW:

Notwithstanding the widespread criticism of inaction against Minister of State for Backward Classes Welfare Ram Murti Singh Verma, who was allegedly involved in the murder of journalist Jagendra Singh, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has made it clear that he will not be sacked.

“No Minister will be removed without inquiry,” said SP chief spokesperson and Irrigation Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav here on Monday.

Sources said SP chief Mulayam Singh did not favour Mr. Ram Murti Verma’s ouster as it would alienate the Kurmis.

Apart from Mr. Verma, Kailash Chaurasia — the SP candidate for Varanasi in the 2014 Lok Sabha election — is the other Minister of State facing allegations of having roughed up a transport officer in Mirzapur and demanding favours.
