Two city armed reserve (CAR) personnel were injured when the van in which they were travelling overturned near Yeshwantapur on Sunday. They were a part of the convoy for the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who was returning to Chennai.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-West) Panduranga Rane, the van carrying the CAR personnel was the last one of the 12-vehicle convoy of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Mr. Karunanidhi, who was in Bangalore, was on the way to the Bangalore International Airport.

Apart from the vehicles from Tamil Nadu police, five vehicles of the city police were a part of the convoy. This batch of CAR personnel is one of the several quick reaction teams generally used in a convey to tackle the law and order situation, if any, during the drive.

Around 9 a.m., the driver of the CAR van applied brake on the newly constructed Yeshwantapur flyover and lost control over the vehicle. The van overturned resulting in injuries to the two CAR men sitting next to the window. While one had injuries on his shoulder, the other had injury on the face. "It's a freak accident and the injuries are minor. They have been admitted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital," Mr. Rane said.
