Three militants and two civilians were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants of the KYKL(MDF) at Leimram in Bishnupur district on Saturday night.

The police commandos and personnel of 12 Maratha Light Infantry recovered a universal machine gun with 3,000 rounds of ammunition, an AK 56 rifle with 13 rounds, an M-16 rifle with 16 rounds and a Chinese hand-grenade.

Women staged an agitation at Leimram, condemning the killing of the civilians. They submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, demanding compensation to the bereaved families.

Lalboi Kuki, 30, a teacher, sustained a bullet injury when suspected tribal militants attacked him here on Sunday night. He is battling for survival in hospital.

The death toll in the accident at Chumukedima near Dimapur in Nagaland has gone up to 13. A bus from Imphal plunged into a 150-metre-deep gorge on Thursday, killing nine persons instantaneously and injuring 10 others.
