Taslima requests Rajnath to grant long-term visa

Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen, who met Home Minister Rajnath Singh here on Saturday, said the Centre has decided to grant her a resident visa. “I am very happy. I am very grateful to the government for allowing me to live in this country,” Ms. Nasreen told a television news channel. However, there was no confirmation in this regard from the Home Ministry till late in the evening.

Perturbed over the government’s decision to reduce the duration of her resident visa to two months, the Bangladeshi author earlier in the day met Mr. Singh seeking his intervention.

Ms. Nasreen tweeted: “I met Honourable Home Minister Rajnath Singhji this afternoon. Gave him my book,Wo Andhere Din. He said, ‘Aapka Andhere Din Khatam Ho Jayega’ (Your dark days would be over).”

Ms. Nasreen earlier told The Hindu that she was “entirely confused” about the nature of the permit granted to her. Ms. Nasreen has been staying in India since 2004 on a resident permit.
