Bharatiya Janata Party national president Amit Shah on Friday said that the party’s electoral performance after the previous general elections reflected the people’s acceptance of the policies of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government at the Centre.
This was clearly evident from the mandate the party had secured in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana, where the BJP had its Chief Ministers while the party had secured impressive victory in Jammu & Kashmir.
He was confident that the stalemate on the formation of the Government in J&K would end soon. “The BJP’s performance in the four States post general elections are a big certificate to the policies of the BJP-led Central Government headed by Narendra Modi,” he said at a press conference here on Friday.
'Modi govt. brought down inflation'
Listing out some of the achievements of the Narendra Modi Government, he said the Government successfully brought down inflation which hovered between 6.7 and 7.9 during the 10-year UPA rule in a short span of seven months. As several sectors including the Defence suffered because of the indecision of the Congress-led UPA Government, the growth rate had come down to 4.6 per cent from 8.6 per cent at the time when UPA took over.
“The NDA Government has ensured its growth to 5.7 per cent in less than two quarters,” he said adding the policy paralysis that plagued the UPA had been put behind and the global investment community was upbeat. He criticised the Opposition parties for their attempts to stall the Insurance, coal blocks allocation and land acquisition bills in the Parliament and said the ordinances brought out by the NDA Government reflected its conviction that development should not be stopped at any cost.
Black money
On the black money issue, he said while there was no action during the UPA regime, the NDA Government had constituted a special investigation team and handed over the details of over 700 accounts in foreign banks. “Bringing back black money is a complex issue as it involves international laws and bilateral agreements. We are trying to expeditiously resolve the issue,” he said.
He said the relations with the SAARC countries had improved while the country could convince the World Trade Organisation on its resolve to provide support price to farmers. “The international community is giving the respect that we deserve due to the external affairs policies of the NDA Government,” he said.
Union Minister and former BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu said the BJP was confident of putting up a good show in Delhi assembly elections slated next month. The party focussed its attention on expanding in south and east where there was a vaccum.
