BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday said that he would take legal recourse if the government finalised the Rafale aircraft deal with France as there were serious shortcomings in the aircraft.
Warns PM“If the Prime Minister for some other ‘compulsion’ decides to go ahead with the deal, I will have no option but to approach the court with a PIL plea to set it aside,” he said in a statement.
The performance of the French jet “turned out to be worst of all the aircraft” in Libya and Egypt, the BJP leader added.
Two major issuesAccording to Dr. Swamy, two major issues with Rafales “which would embarrass the BJP government” are that they are “less fuel-efficient” and “no other country has agreed to buy them.”
‘Better to buy Dassault’Dr. Swamy said that some countries had cancelled contracts after signing MoU with Dassault. “It is a fact that Dassault will go bankrupt if no country buys the Rafale. If we want to oblige the French, it is better to buy Dassault itself rather than their planes as it will be more beneficial.”
India and France on Friday night announced direct purchase of 36 Rafale aircraft and Dr. Swamy’s reaction to this is awaited.
