Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy has demanded a CBI inquiry into the failed IPL bid made by a company in which Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and his daughter Supriya Sule are shareholders.
Describing the IPL (Indian Premier League) as a ‘stinking hole of corruption,' Dr. Swamy wanted the CBI to investigate the involvement of huge money and politicians in its tournaments. Those in active public life should keep away from cricketing bodies and the Ministers should realise that their primary job was public service and not cricket. The recent IPL tournament had also affected the performance of Indian cricketers, he said addressing newspersons here on Saturday.
“Act against Maoists”
Criticising Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram for his failure to contain violence by Maoists, Dr. Swamy disputed his contention that he had only a limited mandate. The Constitution had given him the mandate and it was for him to enforce it. He demanded all possible actions against Maoists.
Dr. Swamy condemned the Tamil film bodies for demanding a boycott of the ongoing International India Film Academy event in Colombo which, he said was ‘unconstitutional.' As both the countries had diplomatic relations, there was nothing wrong in film personalities participating in the festival.
Dr. Swamy said he would tour Tamil Nadu and Kerala to shortlist his party candidates for the Assembly elections on the basis of the Hindutva ideology.
