Suspected Maoists kill CPI(M) leader

Suspected Maoists shot dead a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader at Balarampur in West Bengal's Purulia district late on Wednesday.

Superintendent of Police of Purulia district Rajesh Yadav told TheHindu that a group of 15-20 armed Maoists barged into Shashadhar Kumar's house at Daba village in the Balarampur area late on Wednesday and dragged him to a nearby wooded area.

“Mr. Kumar was the CPI(M)'s local committee member. He had been threatened and had to flee several times due to fear of the extremists. His body was recovered on Thursday,” Mr. Yadav said.
