Indian nationals stranded in the cities of Osh and Jalal-Abad in southern Kyrgyzstan due to the civil disturbances were safely evacuated to Bishkek by late Monday night.
The Indian embassy in Bishkek, in close coordination with the Kyrgyz authorities, transported 116 Indians, the External Affairs Ministry said in a press release here on Tuesday. Those moved to safety included 114 students, a professor and a businessman. Of these, 101, including 99 students, were stranded at Osh, and the rest at Jalal-Abad. The Ministry said some of the students had lost their passports and that the Indian mission would issue new passports and other travel documents.
While some students wanted to stay on at Bishkek, others preferred to return to India. The embassy would be making efforts to ensure that the students travelled to India over the next few days by commercial or chartered flights, operating normally in and out of Bishkek.
