Rajya Sabha MP Husain Dalwai criticised the government for allowing tributes to be paid to Nathuram Godse and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify why the ideology of “the country's first terrorist” is being glorified.

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour, the Congress leader said he has written to Mr. Modi, seeking a clarification on what steps are being taken by the government to stop the honouring of Godse, who killed the Father of the Nation.

Mr. Dalwai said Mahatama Gandhi who led India's struggle for independence has taught the world how to fight for and secure rights through nonviolence, yet in India his killer's ideology is being propagated.

"Motorcycle rallies to propagate his ideology are being organised, flyovers are being named after him, and his busts are being installed. Temples are being constructed to honour terrorists. I want to know what the government has done to stop this,” he said, adding “I demand to know whether the Prime Minister will even answer [this question].”
