The Samajwadi Party on Thursday demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss media reports of alleged recent incursions by China along the Line of Actual Control.
Party president Mulayam Singh said, “We urge the government to call a special session of the Lok Sabha to discuss the issue. People ought to know how alert the government is about protecting our borders.”
Mr. Singh alleged that whenever the Congress was in power, India’s borders got compressed. “We want to know what the Defence Minister and the Prime Minister are doing about it, other than Ministers complaining to the United States.”
Mr. Singh said that when he was the Defence Minister, his priority was to strengthen the borders. “I am not in favour of a war but I am cautioning the government to be alert as China wants to target Arunachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh.”
Mr. Singh was addressing the media to announce his alliance with the Bahujan Sangharsh Party (Kanshi Ram) for the Haryana Assembly elections. A seat sharing arrangement for the 90 Assembly seats would be decided on Friday. The State goes to the polls on October 13.
Flanked by the BSP (KR) President Kanta Agaria (a former SP member) and SP Haryana chief Ramphal Yadav, Mr. Singh claimed the alliance would win enough seats to have a say in government formation.
