The Supreme Court on Tuesday constituted a board of medical specialists to examine Asaram, but put on hold his plea for interim bail on health grounds.
Taking into consideration the pleas of the family of a young girl, whom he is alleged to have sexually assaulted in his Jodhpur ashram, a Bench led by Justice T.S. Thakur observed that it may re-visit his bail request after the witnesses in the criminal case are examined on trial.
Meanwhile, the court directed principal of the Jodhpur-based S.N. Medical College to form a medical team to examine 76-year-old Asaram and see if he requires extensive treatment.
The court sought the medical report by September 23, the next date of hearing. Senior advocate Salman Khurshid, who represents Asaram, said he suffered shooting pains as a result of a possible neurological problem.
