The Ministry of Railways has reportedly referred to the CBI the case pertaining to the charge that the former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad doled out jobs and contracts during his tenure to those who sold land to his relatives.
However, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said the Railway Vigilance was looking into the complaints lodged by various MPs, including those of the Janata Dal (United), alleging irregularities in the appointment of grade three and four employees. She said that it was an internal matter, being investigated by the Railway Vigilance, and was not referred to the CBI.
Ms. Banerjee said that she had no personal differences with Mr. Prasad and added that she respected him. According to sources in the Railways, on the other hand, the case was referred to the CBI because the Railway Vigilance was not competent to investigate the case.
Mr. Prasad, however, declined to comment on this issue saying that he knew nothing about the matter and he was not bothered by what others were doing. “Let them do what they want. I have no problem.” He maintained that he respected Ms. Banerjee and that he had nothing to offer as a reaction on the matter.
PTI reports:
The former Railway Minister and RJD supremo said he was unfazed by the development. “Much has been said on this issue. Let them do whatever they want. I don’t do any wrong to anyone. I do my work and that’s all...I am not afraid (of Mamata seeking CBI probe),” Mr. Prasad told reporters here, refusing to comment on the issue further.
He also denied any knowledge about Ms. Banerjee seeking to refer the allegations of irregularities in Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) and Railway Recruitment Committees (RRC) to an outside agency for probe, saying he had regards for her. “I don’t know what this is. I do my work and that’s all. I have regards for Mamata,” Mr. Prasad said.
