Queen's Baton to enter Himachal today

Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said the State government has made elaborate arrangements to receive the Queen's Baton for the19th Commonwealth Games, 2010, in the hill State.

He said here on Saturday that the Baton would be accorded a rousing reception at Mehatpur in Una district on its entry into the State on Sunday. He said the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of Una, Kangra, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur have been directed to ensure a warm welcome to the Baton on the way. Olympians from the State and students would also have the privilege to hold the Baton, he added.

Mr. Dhumal said the Baton would traverse through seven out of 12 districts and would be handed over to Uttrakhand authorities at Ponta Sahib on July 6. Various cultural activities have been planned at the historic Gaiety Theatre when the Baton reaches Shimla on July 5.
