Quashing cases against Saeed a serious development: Cong

Congress on Monday termed quashing of two cases against JuD chief Hafiz Mohd Saeed by a Pakistani court as “serious development” saying the international community should take note of it.

“It is a serious development. We have given enough evidence to the authorities there regarding the involvement of Saeed in the Mumbai attack last year. The international community should take note of it,” party spokesman Shakeel Ahmed said.

He alleged that the development means that Pakistani authorities did not present properly the evidence given by India against Saeed in the court.

“The government of India should take note of it and take necessary steps. We consider him (Saeed) the mastermind of 26/11 attacks in Mumbai,” Ahmed added.

A Pakistani court ordered quashing of two cases under an anti-terrorism law against Saeed saying he could not be charged under the act as his outfit was not banned in the country.
