The documents given to Malegaon blast accused Lt. Col. Shrikant Prasad Purohit by the Army was based on the order of a special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) two months back and they will be submitted to the court shortly, said his lawyer Neela Gokhale. His bail plea is also coming up for hearing this week.
Ms. Gokhale told The Hindu that the documents contain the minutes of the meetings attended by officers who deposed that Lt. Col. Purohit’s activities had led to further operations that were successful in busting terrorists’ hideouts and recovering arms and ammunition. “This proves that he kept his officers in the loop on his activities,” she said.
She also observed that the Defence Ministry had not opposed releasing the documents after the court’s directive. The documents were handed over to his wife late last week.
