The Economic Offences Wing of the Uttar Pradesh police has started a probe into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of a Central scheme for disabled persons by the Dr. Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust managed by Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid and his wife Louise.

The probe began on July 3, 2012 following the detection of alleged irregularities in the implementation of a scheme related to the distribution of aids and implements to the disabled persons in a preliminary report submitted to the government by the Department of Disabled Welfare.

Director General of EOW Subrat Tripathi told reporters that the enquiry was being conducted in 17 districts of the State where the welfare camps were organised by the Trust in 2009-10 for the distribution of kits to the physically challenged persons. Four teams were constituted for the purpose. The scope of the enquiry would include the alleged irregularities committed by the Trust in 2009-10 and signatures of district-level officials allegedly forged for obtaining grant.
