Welcoming the austerity directive, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Saturday asked his officials to strictly follow the laid down norms.

Mr. Patel himself does not take salary from the government as a Minister, a practice he has been following from the day he assumed office in the previous government in 2004, an official spokesperson said.

Most of the times, he also uses his personal car for travel in the capital.

The spokesperson said Mr. Patel has directed the officials of his Ministry to “strictly adhere to all the austerity norms.”
