Police oppose bail, seek custody of Pacheco

June 10, 2010 02:30 am | Updated November 09, 2016 03:03 pm IST - PANAJI:

The police on Wednesday opposed the bail plea of the former Goa Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco, and pressed for his custodial interrogation in the case of the unnatural death of Nadia Torrado.

The district magistrate court in Margao has fixed for Thursday the order on the bail plea.

Mr. Pacheco, 46, has been evading the police since Saturday after he resigned as Minister over his alleged involvement in the case. The NCP legislator admitted that he was a close friend of the deceased.

The police, who have since declared him a prime suspect in the case, registered a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Earlier in the day, the court rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Lyndon Monteiro, former Officer on Special Duty of Mr. Pacheco.

In another development, Nadia's mother moved the High Court seeking CBI takeover of the case. The family members complained to the State Women's Commission that they were being harassed by the police.
