Place proposals before Centre, Maoists told

March 08, 2010 12:37 am | Updated November 17, 2021 07:09 am IST - KOLKATA:

The reported overtures by the Maoists for talks should be made to the Centre and in the procedure suggested by the Union Home Ministry, Biman Bose, Chairman of the Left Front Committee, said here on Sunday.

He was commenting on the statements made by Maoist Polit Bureau leader, Kishanji, to a section of the media recently, offering to open dialogue with the Centre.

Kishanji told a local television channel that his outfit had no objection to having Kabir Suman, the Trinamool Congress MP or novelist and social activist, Arundhati Roy, as interlocutors in the talks.

“Such messages should be sent to the Centre…Specific proposals [for talks] should be sent to the right place. What is the point of throwing them up into the skies,” Mr. Bose, who is also Secretary of the West Bengal State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), said.

Kishanji was reported to have said on Saturday that the Maoists are in a position to overthrow the state much before 2050. His remark came a day after Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai, said in New Delhi that the Maoists' aim was to overthrow the state by that year as indicated by documents seized from them.
