The Telecom Ministry has extended till January 31 the tenure of Justice Shivraj V. Patil, who was appointed as a one-man committee to go into the appropriateness of procedures followed in the grant of licence and spectrum during 2001-2009, including the NDA's time in power.

The tenure of the committee, whose terms of reference was notified by the Department of Telecom on December 13, expired on Wednesday, when it was to have submitted its report to Communications Minister Kapil Sibal, says an official release here. While appointing the committee, Mr. Sibal had said any action against erring telecom companies would be taken after Mr. Patil, a retired Supreme Court judge, submitted its report.
