Controversial NCP legislator Fransisco Mickey Pacheco will not attend the Goa Assembly session, which begins today, despite he being allowed to do so, sources said.

“He will not be attending the session as he is sick,” sources close to Pacheco told PTI this morning.

Pacheco is currently in police custody in connection with the death of his family friend Nadia Torrado.

Pacheco, representing Benaulim constituency, was last week allowed by the court to attend the session.

The former minister, who was arrested on July 8, was also served notice to attend the session by speaker’s office.

The Crime Branch, investigating Nadia’s death, had said that Pacheco would be sent to session in police escort.

The former Tourism Minister sits on ruling benches as his party has supported Digamber Kamat-led government. He was instrumental in getting beach safety scheme to the state, which has attained almost zero drowning death on the sea shore of the state.

Pacheco had to step down on May 6 after he was embroiled in the controversy related to death of 28-year-old Nadia, who allegedly consumed rat poison and died on May 30.

She was treated at various hospitals including Apollo hospital in Margao (Goa), Jupiter hospital, Thane (Mumbai) and Apollo hospital (Chennai).
