A sessions court in Margao in south Goa which heard the bail petition of the former Goa Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco, reserved its order till Wednesday.
The Nationalist Congress Party legislator has been named by the Goa police as prime accused in the unnatural death of a young woman.
Suspecting that the former Minister was feigning illness, the Crime Branch investigating the case, on Tuesday submitted before Additional Sessions Judge P.V. Kamat through the public prosecutor that the certificates given by his doctors from the Hospicio hospital of Margao should be examined by a medical board.
After he was remanded to judicial custody on Saturday following his surrender before the sessions court, Mr. Pacheco complained of sickness and got admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of the State-owned Hospicio hospital.
The Crime Branch has sought his custodial interrogation to “get out all the facts.”
Mr. Pacheco has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with the death of Nadia Torrado. She had died in May at a Chennai hospital where she was admitted after allegedly consuming rat poison.
After evading the police for nearly a month following his resignation as Minister in the aftermath of the controversy over the death of his 28-year-old friend, Mr. Pacheco surrendered and moved a bail application. His earlier bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court.
