April 28, 2015 02:30 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:08 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to take cognisance of a public interest litigation petition for an independent probe into the ‘encounter’ killing of 20 Tamil Nadu woodcutters by the Andhra Pradesh red sanders anti-smuggling task force inside the Seshachalam forests situated deep inside the border between the two States.

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India H.L. Dattu declined to entertain the petition, instead urging Supreme Court advocate R. Krishnamurthy to approach the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which is already looking into the incident.

The Bench also said that National Human Rights Commission was already looking into the incident.
