Nine senior IOC officials arrested

Nine senior functionaries of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) were arrested on Friday in connection with the devastating fire that took place at the IOC terminal at Sitapura Industrial Area in October 2009.

The former general Manager of IOC Rajasthan, Gautam Bose, was among those arrested.

Superintendent of Police Jaipur (East) Hawa Singh Ghoomaria said the arrested had been charged under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 304-II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. They had also been charged under Sections, 285, 286, 287, 336, 337 and 427.

The fire, which raged for more than a week, claimed 11 lives and injured more than 150 people.

The material loss in the fire was estimated to be around Rs.300 crore.

The arrested would be produced in the court on Saturday.
