Naxal commander killed in encounter in Andhra Pradesh

A naxal commander was today killed in a shoot—out with police in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh, police said.

A police party from Khammam, about 190 kms from here, came across a group of naxals during a combing operation in the Allapalli forest, a senior police officer from Khammam told PTI over phone.

Suresh, allegedly a commander of Praja Pratighatna group, was killed in the ensuing shoot—out, he said. Suresh also worked as Khammam district secretary of the group, the officer added.

Police recovered weapons, Rs 20,000 cash and a kit bag from the spot, he said. The combing operation is still on.
