The south-west monsoon has arrived in the State with south Gujarat and Saurashtra regions receiving rains on Wednesday, India Meteorological Department officials said here.

“The south-west monsoon advanced into parts of Gujarat today with its onset in south Gujarat and Saurashtra,” IMD Director Kamaljeet Ray told PTI.

“The monsoon is likely to set in other parts of the State in the next 36 to 48 hours,” she said.

The department has predicted moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers at many places in south and north Gujarat regions and Saurashtra in the next two days.

It has warned of heavy to very heavy rains at a few places in south Gujarat and Saurashtra.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea during next one day due to strong monsoon conditions and squally weather, the department officials said.

Winds from the south-westerly direction would blow at 40-50 kmph and could reach up to 60 kmph, they said.

According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), rainfall was recorded in most parts of Saurashtra and south Gujarat.
