Minor girl ‘raped’ by school owner

A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by the owner of her school here following which locals thrashed the accused and indulged in stone pelting.

The girl was allegedly raped by the owner of the school at the school office on Friday, Deputy SP (North) Anil Gothwal said on Saturday.

The girl later told her mother about the incident following which her family members along with some others reached the school premises and demanded that the school owner be handed over to them.

As soon as the news spread, hundreds of people from the locality reached the school, brought the accused out of the building and started beating him badly. They then took him to the police station.

The angry people also damaged two vehicles and pelted stones. Later the agitated mob gheraoed the police station and demanded that the accused be handed over to them. They dispersed only after police assured that they would take action in the case.

Besides the accused, police have arrested the owner of the school building and his son for allegedly thrashing some family members of the victim who were trying to enter the building, Mr. Gothwal said, adding, the situation in the area is now under control.

The victim is under observation at a hospital and her condition is stable.

Mr. Gothwal said the police would write to the education department to initiate stern action against the school.

When contacted, District Education Officer (Secondary) B.S. Rawat said that a committee would be constituted soon to enquire into the incident.

“Action against the school would be taken based on the report of the committee,” Mr. Rawat said.
