An international continuing medical education (CME) programme will be organised here by the World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) in association with the Indian Society of Gastroenterology on April 16 and 17.
Emergencies in gastrointestinal system, case-based discussions on obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, dysphagia, jaundice and liver transplantation will be discussed by a panel of national and international experts.
There will be a session on teaching and training in gastroenterology, which will be addressed by experts from the WGO. Newer diagnostic tools for various gastrointestinal disorders and interventional modalities will be discussed.
A parallel live workshop has also been scheduled and a CME course on endosonography and endobronchial ultrasonography will be held at the Apollo Hospital on April 17.
Shyam Varadarajulu and Roberto Fernando Casal, experts from the United States, will be the international faculty for the programme, along with R. Narasimhan and P. Piramanayagam from the Apollo Hospital.
There will be a train-the-trainers (TTT) programme to be organised between April 10 and 14. About 50 participants, including 25 from all over the world will be involved in it.
The programme, developed by the WGO, attempts to provide educators an opportunity to receive some formal training or education, according to K.R .Palaniswamy, organising chairman.
By bringing together trainers from across the world in intensive and interactive four-day sessions dedicated to development of teaching skills, the WGO has ensured a forum for interaction between experts in education and for sharing experience and common problems, according to V. Balasubramanian, organising secretary.
