The molestation case involving a former Director General of the Haryana Police, S.P.S. Rathore, came up informally when the Minister of State (Independent charge) for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to greet him for the new year’s on Friday morning.
The issue came up in the presence of the chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Girija Vyas, when Dr. Singh enquired from Ms. Tirath about the developments in her Ministry. Ms. Tirath replied that she was totally focussed on the molestation case.
Apprising Dr. Singh of the incident, Ms. Tirath said she had sought a report from the NCW, based on the meeting of the committee of lawyers constituted to look into the matter.
The committee, after its first meeting earlier this week, had recommended a list of charges including abetment to suicide, against Mr. Rathore.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, Ms. Tirath said the Prime Minister was sensitive about the issue and wanted to know the latest update on the case. Quoting him , she said the incident had shocked the nation and wanted an assurance that such cases were not repeated.
Ms. Tirath said she was in touch with the Law Minister and wanted special fast track courts to decide such cases.
