Demanding speedy action in the case of rape and murder of a minor girl in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Monday demanded a Sharia-like law to prevent heinous crimes against women and children.
The MNS leader is the latest among the slew of politicians to visit the kin of the victim in Kopardi village.
Mr. Thackeray said the “hands and legs of those who molested and killed minors and women should be cut off.”
“Our legal procedures are cumbersome and the final judgment is a long time in coming. This indirectly boosts the courage of criminals,” he said, adding that there was an urgent need to make the laws more stringent.
Criticising the Devendra Fadnavis government, the MNS leader said such incidents only proved the complete collapse of the law and order mechanism in Maharashtra.
“With the Kopardi crime, the present government is proving itself worse than the past Congress-NCP coalition,” said Mr. Thackeray.
He said there was a pressing need to control the misuse of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
