Kalyan Singh, who was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh during the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, on Tuesday rubbished the Liberhan Commission report as “politically motivated" and said "he had no regrets over the destruction of the disputed structure in Ayodhya".
"The report is politically motivated and illogical," he said condemning the indictment of Atal Bihari Vajpayee by the commission.
"I condemn the Liberhan Commission for indicting a nationalist leader like Atal Bihari Vajpayee," he said. "I have no regrets over the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya."
He also rejected commission's claim that the demolition of the disputed structure was pre-planned and said "had it been so, the top BJP leaders would not have been present close to the site" as they could have been held responsible.
He said he will work to strengthen the saffron party as he saw a new political course being charted in the country after the tabling of the report.
"I haven't spoken to any of the BJP leaders till now and nobody has contacted me. However, if there is a feeling in the party that it has been weakened by my exit, then I am ready to strengthen it," he said.
The former BJP leader said he was ready to go to jail for the "cause of the temple".
He said "no force on earth" can stop the Ram Mandir from being constructed at Ayodhya.
"No effort should be made to erect the mosque at the disputed site and whoever tries to do so will do it at his own peril," Mr. Singh said.
"Both the Hindus and Muslims should be made clearly understood that the temple will be constructed at the site where Lord Ram's idol is placed and no masjid will be allowed to be constructed," he said.
Mr. Singh sought to reach out to the Muslim community in resolving the stalemate over the Babri Masjid issue suggesting that there should be a "dialogue" between Hindus and Muslims to ease tension and bitterness. In the same vain, he appealed to Muslims to cooperate in construction of the temple.
Holding the successive Congress governments at the Centre responsible for laying the ground for the demolition of the disputed structure, he said the demolition of the disputed structure was the manifestation of the years of suppression of Hindu sentiments.
"The posture I had in 1992 is my real face and I will always be seen in the same mood," Mr. Singh said.
Responding to Commission's observation that the entire conspiracy was a result of lust and greed on the part of the BJP leadership, Singh said: "I condemn the commission for alleging that all these nationalist leaders who are serving the party for so long could get lured by power and greed to resort to the demolition of the structure."
