LeT militant arrested in Kupwara

The police on Wednesday arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant from north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, who was allegedly plotting an ambush on the National Highway in the Kashmir Valley.

According to a police official, the LeT militant, identified as Ashiq Ahmed, alias Abu Haider, was apprehended by the Handwara police and the Army’s 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in a joint operation near Fruit Mandi Crossing in Handwara. “We had specific information about his presence in the area,” said the police official. After a sustained interrogation, the police said, Ahmad revealed he was planning an attack.
