Lashkar ambush lasted only 30 seconds, says CRPF chief

A day after a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus was attacked by two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir, CRPF DG K. Durga Prasad said the terrorists took only 30 seconds to kill eight personnel and injure 22 others.

Mr. Prasad said on Sunday the force had phone intercepts, which revealed that terrorist groups had been planning an attack on security forces for the past few days. He said the terrorists dressed in black trousers and shirts were dropped off near the CRPF bus by two other “local militants” who drove off in a car. He said the terrorists were not carrying any bag and had unmarked grenades on them. He also said most of the CRPF personnel had suffered injuries on the upper part of the body and at least two were still on ventilator support.

On Sunday, Home Minister Rajnath Singh directed a team of Ministry officials to be led by Special Secretary (border management) Susheel Kumar to travel to J&K and revise the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) followed by Central forces in the State.
