Former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Kumar Modi has refused to accept summons issued by the Chennai police in connection with a Rs. 468-crore cheating case. “He (Modi) has refused to accept the summons…we will wait and see how many turn up for the enquiry and take action later. We may register a case and proceed under the provisions of Section 172 (Absconding to avoid service of summons or other proceeding) of IPC,” Commissioner of Police T. Rajendran said on Tuesday.
One of the accused in the case, Kunal Dasgupta, Chiarman and Chief Executive Officer, Pioneer Digadsys Services Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai, appeared before the Investigation Officer in the Central Crime Branch on Tuesday. “He is cooperating well and the enquiry will continue tomorrow,” he added.
The case pertains to the complaint lodged by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) against Mr. Modi and others. The CCB had registered a case under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 477 (A) (falsification of accounts) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.
