Karnataka is planning to file a review petition in the Supreme Court, seeking that it reconsider its directive to the State to release 10,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu, which received heavy rain.

Speaking to journalists after meeting the floor leaders of both Houses of the Legislature, Minister for Water Resources Basavaraj Bommai said the Opposition leaders made the suggestion.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who chaired a meeting here, is expected to make a statement in the Assembly after consultations with legal experts.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah said he had suggested that the State file a review petition, given the severe shortage of water in reservoirs and the heavy rain in Tamil Nadu.
