Armed forces and the National Disaster Response Force have so far rescued over 77,000 people from flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir.
Nearly 80 transport aircraft and helicopters of the IAF and the Army have been pressed into service. The Army has deployed approximately 30,000 troops for rescue operations. Water bottles, food packets, baby food, blankets and tents have been distributed and 80 medical teams of the armed forces medical services are operating in full swing. They have treated more than 10,000 patients, defence officials said on Wednesday.
The armed forces had also set up relief camps in Srinagar and Jammu. In Srinagar, camps were established at BB Cantonment, Avantipur, Old Airfield, Sumbal, Chattargam and Jijamata Mandir, where thousands of people were sheltered.
To restore road connectivity, five task forces of the Border Roads Organisation had been pressed into service.
