Infiltration bid foiled, 5 soldiers injured

Five soldiers were injured in an encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) with a group of terrorists, who were intercepted by the Army when they were trying to infiltrate from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday.

The infiltrators were attempting to sneak in through the Macchil sector of Kupwara district of Kashmir when they were confronted by the army, an army official said.

He said the militants were engaged by the soldiers and exchange of firing was going on till reports last came in.

Five soldiers were injured in the ongoing operation, the official said.

Militants fire at police post Meanwhile, suspected militants fired upon a police post in Kulgam district of Kashmir on Tuesday night, but there was no loss of life, police said.

Militants fired about 10 rounds from an orchard which is adjacent to an under-construction complex of police post at Mutalhama Qoimoh in Kulgam, an official said.

A policeman deployed there fired some rounds in the air. No loss of life was reported in the incident, the official said.

He said the area has been cordoned off and a search was going on.
