Shot in some of the most remote villages of Maharashtra, it documents people attending nighttime film screenings held by a travelling cinema.

A Press release described the Sony World Photography Awards as "the world’s largest and most comprehensive photography competition’’.

Mr Madheshiya was among 13 photographers from around the world honoured at a ceremony here on Tuesday.

“All the winning images will be exhibited as part of the Sony World Photography Awards Winners’ Showcase, part of the World Photography Festival at Somerset House, London’s biggest ever festival of international photography. The Showcase, which runs from 26 April to 22 May, captures a unique view of the world in 2010/11 as recorded through the lens of winning photographers who entered this year’s competition,’’ the press release said.
