From the day they got married eight years ago, this couple shared one dream: to conquer Mt. Everest together.
They decided to delay parenthood until they achieved their goal, which finally happened on May 23.
Dinesh and Tarkeshwari Rathod, both Maharashtra Police constables, also became the first Indian couple to reach the summit of Everest — a feat they accomplished a few days after constable Rafiq Shaikh, of Aurangabad, became the first Maharashtra policeman to scale the peak.
Our dreams have come true, the couple told reporters. “We made a commitment that we will not give birth to a child until we climb Mt. Everest,” said Mr. Rathod.
The Rathods, both aged 30, entered into police service in 2006. They have climbed the highest peak of Australia and undertaken skydiving adventures. Over 70 Indian nationals have successfully climbed Mt Everest this season.
