India welcomes U.S. move

Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor at a function in New Delhi on Wednesday. Tharoor has said India is not feeling left out on not being mentioned in Barack Obama’s AfPak policy speech.  

Despite India not finding a mention in U.S. President Barack Obama’s speech on the new policy for Afghanistan, New Delhi said it was “not complaining” while U.S. Ambassador Timothy J. Roemer said India would be a key player in efforts to stabilise the region.

Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor welcomed the U.S.’ continued commitment in Afghanistan and said India was “very pleased that pressure on the Al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan and on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border will not be eased.”

Mr. Roemer said India was a “key, global partner” of the U.S., which valued the positive role New Delhi played in the region.
