After a week-long active phase, the southwest monsoon is set to enter into a weak phase once more. The lull, however, is expected to be temporary, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated here on Friday.
In a press release, the department said weather prediction models were indicated that the monsoon trough could move northward and run close to the foothills of the Himalayas up to July 14.
Consequently, over the next one week, rainfall activity was expected to remain scattered over the south peninsular region, be subdued over Central India and be moderate over the west coast.
There would, however, be widespread rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and other north-eastern states.
From about mid-July onwards, the situation was likely to improve as models indicated that the eastern end of the trough would shift southwards.
