ICM release doesn't represent our view: varsity

The University of Hyderabad has clarified that it has not issued any statement on the procedures followed by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.

The varsity said, in a statement, that the communiqué issued by the organisers of the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) 2010, which was published in these columns, did not represent its views. It said that reports about Grand Master Viswanathan Anand having declined to accept the doctorate were not true, adding that Mr. Anand had expressed his ‘inability to accept the degree during the ICM.'

A university spokesperson, when contacted, said that ICM executive committee had issued the press release without consulting the university.
