Showering praises on the style of functioning of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said he was comfortable with his present position and he could do whatever he want in his present capacity.

“Nobody can predict who will become the Prime Minister of India in the future,” he said when some students referred to him as the “future PM” during his 80-minute-long free-wheeling interaction at Andhra Loyola College here. “Dr. Manmohan Singh is a capable person and is doing his job well,” he remarked.During his interaction with the students, Mr. Gandhi touched up issue of reservations, attacks on Indian students in Australia, terrorism and poverty.

On reservations, Mr. Gandhi asked those opposed to it to raise their hands. Even as a good number of hands went up, he said that the need for reservations would not arise if there were a good number of institutions of higher education. Mr. Gandhi observed that Indians Down Under were bold enough to face such challenges.

On global warming, he said though the country was far ahead of the US on this front, there was a lot to do to protect the environment. When students asked about curbing terrorism, Mr. Gandhi said that he lost his beloved father to terrorism and the accused were undergoing imprisonment. “We should not deprive anyone of his rights. We have a legal system that is unfortunately working slowly,” he said.
