July 01, 2010 12:39 am | Updated November 07, 2016 10:11 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Expressing serious concern over the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, the Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Wednesday, said the UPA government should further the political dialogue towards a settlement of outstanding issues.

Referring to the recent incidents, in which a number of young men died in police firing, the party said in a statement that the escalation of protests and confrontation had led to the loss of eight young lives and also conveyed its condolences to the bereaved families.

‘Excessive force'

“The anger of the people erupted after the first incident. Firm action should be taken by the State government and the Central authorities to curb excessive use of force,” the statement said.
